ASM B-17g Flying Fortress

Following the lead of the very successful Hercules, the new Advanced Scale Models 1/10th scale B-17 Flying Fortress is the second in the four engined series of models from this innovative manufacturer.

The full size B-17 is one of the all time classic military aircraft and was made famous during WW2, when it was a common sight in European skies. Designed to suit either .40-.46 two stroke or .52-.56 four stroke engines, the B-17 is equally suitable for electric power, with its light weight and substantial wing area making it a stable and easy to fly scale replica.

Flying surfaces are of conventional construction, being fully built up from high quality balsa and ply, and being completely sheeted prior to covering in film, which is then painted to match the finish on the fuselage and the fibreglass engine nacelles and cowlings. With a superb flying performance and amazing presence in the air, the ASM B-17 is the ideal way to own and fly your own large scale multi engine bomber, and to allow easy transport and storage the model can be broken down into surprisingly small components, the wing being in three sections whilst the two part fuselage is simply bolted together, and the tailplane halves are also removable.

Flaps are fitted as standard and are very effective, reducing both take off and landing distances, and lowering the stalling speed, meaning that the B-17 can be flown at many sites previously off limits to large multi engine scale models. Construction utilises the proven ASM system of a fuselage consisting of ply formers with carbon longerons, this substructure being clad in ABS plastic, accurately simulating the curvaceous shape of the full sized aircraft.

Options available include retracting undercarriage and spring loaded struts.
