E-Flite Carbon-Z Yak 54 - PNP - EFL10075

Yak 54 Carbon-Z PNP

The PNP version of the Yak 54 Carbon Z will be equipped to the high specifications recommended by Quique Somenzini himself with all components from the servos to the motor, being carefully selected and matched to optimise the plane’s performance.

Designed by champion aerobatic pilot Quique Somenzini, E-flite’s version of the Yak 54 is a semi scale 3D model that features an entirely new construction process “Carbon Z” that takes foam constructed airplanes to a higher level, comparable in many ways to traditional built up balsa models.

Carbon Z is a process that combines a lightweight foam airframe with carbon fibre reinforcements installed in strategic places resulting in a model that is stronger than its balsa counterparts while keeping it similar in weight. In addition the foam outer material is not affected by changes in temperature or weather, which ensures that it will look great right out of the box.

The foam outer material is designed to survive minor crashes with minimal damage, however in the event of a crash minor dents to the foam’s outer surface can be easily repaired the flying field and thanks to the model’s modular construction replacement of damaged sections/parts is very easy. These innovations mean that this great flying plane will definitely spend more time in the air and less time in the workshop.

The result is an unlimited performer for 3D aerobatics that has an impressive 2:1 power to weight ratio and speed of over 70 mph right out of the box.

Yak 54

The Yak-54 is part of a new generation of acrobatic aircraft from the Yakovlev design bureau who have a long line of aircraft designs that started in 1937 with UT-2/AIR-10. The Yak-54 two seat aerobatic aircraft is being produced by Progress Aviation Co and the aircraft has won in many European and World aerobatic events.

The Yak-54 was designed to train future aerobatic pilots, with the fuselage and wings built to withstand extreme aerobatics up to 7 G's, yet even with its superb power to weight ratio the overall handling is quite forgiving for this type of aircraft.

Design of the Yak-54 dates back to the early 1990's, it is essentially a two seat version of the Yak-55 that first flew in 1981. In addition to the second seat, the Yak-54 can be distinguished from its predecessor by its more forward raked main landing gear, three bladed propeller and its larger tail surfaces.

The prototype Yak-54 first took to the sky in 1993 and was introduced to the public at the 1994 Paris Air Show. Manufacturing of the aircraft ceased in 1998, after only one production aircraft was built, pending certification. Modifications were made to the aircraft to improve aerodynamics, stability, and aerobatic performance. Further production delays ensued when the M-14 engine of the aircraft did not receive its certification.

What is Carbon-Z?

Below is a wing from the new Carbon-Z™ Yak 54; the first E-flite aircraft to use patentpending Carbon-Z construction. A revolution in foam aircraft engineering, Carbon-Z fuses the lightweight durability of a Z-Foam™ structure with the strength and rigidity of carbon fibre.
